The Association of Educational Psychologists

The AEP was originally involved with the NLA when one of its members joined in the early days of NLA. Educational psychologists recognise the strategic importance of literacy in the wider context of the learning environment. They are also actively engaged in the assessment of more complex elements of children's acquisition of literacy.

As a professional association, as well as a trade union, we encounter situations on a daily basis where children's literacy difficulties prevent them from accessing the richness and excitement of reading. Our main aim is to ameliorate these situations in partnership with parents, teachers and schools. We continue to support the NLA in its enthusiasm for promoting literacy in its wider context.

The British Dyslexia Association

The relationship between NLA and BDA has existed from the outset. The BDA was delighted to have provided supplies of the Famous People posters. These posters certainly make people stop and think and we still value them enormously.

There has been a long-term collaboration between BDA and NLA and we support the NLA wholeheartedly in its aims to promote awareness of and support children's literacy needs.

National Union of Teachers

The National Union of Teachers is proud to have sponsored the National Literacy Association's 'Guide to Literacy Resources' since 2001. This sponsorship builds on the NUT's long-standing involvement with the NLA, since its formation in 1993.

The NUT was one of the first signatories to the NLA's '99 by 99' pledge for literacy, endorsing the principle that, if literacy is a priority in society, the vast majority of children should leave school with the speaking, listening, reading and writing skills needed for life in the 21st Century.

Professional Association of Teachers

Our service to members is second to none.

PAT isn't the largest union for teachers and child carers, but our smaller size means we can offer a more personal service to our members and have more time for their individual needs. With around 34,000 members, we're large enough to make our voice heard at national level.

AT is the union for the whole team of education and childcare professionals working together for children, pupils and students.
